Challenge: Ambassador Press wanted their site redesigned and given a more web 2.0 look and feel. Their company had been rebranded the year before this challenge was presented so they didn’t want to stray too far from what they currently had.

Our Process: Working with my classmate Amber, we broke down the project into three phases: Research, Structure and Design.

During the Research phase, Amber and I looked at their current site and evaluated what they had, what they needed and what they wanted. We also took the time to analyze three of their competitors to help brainstorm ways to set them apart. The deliverable for this part of the project was two reports, one on the current site, detailing what we found and our initial thoughts, the second was a competitive analysis providing the strengths and weaknesses we found on other sites.

Phase two, Structure, was centered around organizing the company’s established content into a practical and intuitive site map. This would help us visualize the layout of the entire site and help make the navigation easier for the user to find what they are looking for. The deliverable here was the information architecture/site map.

The final phase was Design, with all our research and the site structure in line, we could get to the fun part of making the site visually pleasing. Because we had a two person team, we decided to create 2 designs with 3 pages each. The designs included on this page were the ones I focused on. The deliverable for this phase was a total of 6 design examples illustrating navigation, functionality, usability and visual simplicity, while maintaining the look and feel of their recent rebranding work.

End Result: Amber and I presented our work to three members of Ambassador Press as well as a representative from MCAD. We summarized our process and provided our reasoning behind our choices. Although the design itself was not chosen as the final winner, they were very impressed by our research and our dedication to preparing a detailed and well executed presentation.
