Hey kids! I wanted to quickly get the word out there for this week’s Midnight Retros at Willow Creek Theater in Plymouth. Show times are Friday at Midnight, Saturday at 10:30am and Midnight and one more on Sunday at 10:30am. Recent shows have included Beetlejuice, Batman, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Fight Club, Princess Bride and all kinds of other amazingness. This week…get ready for this…*drumroll* Indiana Jones and the Temple of DOOM! <–Facebook event link
And next week…even better, Jaws… I’ve never seen Jaws, so the fact that the first time I get to see it will be on the big screen is super super exciting. Also coming up is Breakfast Club and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In fact, stay posted on everything Retro here.
But more to the point… the main reason why I’m posting this is to try and get the word out because Retro Movies at Willow Creek are in danger of being canceled because the attendance just isn’t what the owners of the theater want it to be. I stumbled onto Retros one night while looking up show times for Shutter Island (which was a disappointment in my book) and when I looked at Willow Creek I saw a showtime for Fight Club. My heart skipped a beat and I thought I was seeing things…I love that movie! so I got to see it on the big screen and learned about the fact that Willow Creek was having these Retros every week. I went to more shows and eventually learned that they were on the cutting board if attendance didn’t improve. So I’m trying to do what I can to get the word out and encourage people to check it out (even making cookies for everyone when I’m able to, I’m weird I know…). I have to say that it’s far better than the Uptown theater midnight retros and isn’t getting the attention it deserves. The theater is more comfortable, parking is less of a nightmare, tickets are cheap (honestly, you can’t beat $6.50 for movies these days. The Uptown theater even charges $10 for the same thing…) and the employees are super cool and friendly. I could go on, I love what Mr. Retro is doing and I really hope that the movies don’t go away. I only wish I knew about it sooner so I could get more people involved. This could be too little too late…but it’s worth a shot.
I don’t know if blogging about it will help at all…but it’s just one more thing I can try to do.
As Mr. Retro himself would say… “Save the Retros!”
